Into the new year
As Christmas approached, with the weather still rather mild, more siding was put up and the downstairs door was installed. I spent some time cleaning up, putting in the door locks and getting the house ready for the break. No one came to work during the holiday period, so securing the house felt good. Nice to be able to use keys. Just after Christmas, Lena and Iliana came to see the developments. We picked up some sandwiches and had lunch in the rather comfortably heated basement. We’ve come a ways, but still lots to do.
On the Monday after New Year’s I joined the boys who were working on the siding. I spent the time spraying foam insulation in the eaves in preparation for Rockwool bats. Things were going going well, except that James and Joe were running out of screws. A number of attempts to find more ended up dry. A small nightmare. The siding on ICF needs to have a wide head and be 1.5 inches long. Hard to understand, but wide head screws are not an easy find. The siding had to be set aside and we moved to the divisions in the basement.
On Tuesday we started making chalk lines for the walls. Dennis ordered the wood and it was delivered promptly. Wednesday morning the boys started the work and we went though all the details, including the modifications on the plans. Things are starting to take shape.
Dennis and I spent a bit of time talking about heating and HRV. Have to do some research and get some answers for how t proceed. Thursday is a snow day. No venturing onto the highway. Back to things on Friday.
