The Lot
One of four heavily treed, rectangular 5 acre lots with 205 ft of frontage on the road, 209 at the back, by 1087 long. The first 300 ft is a slope of mixed hardwood forest typical of the area: mostly maple, basswood, beech and ironwood. The slope is in the shape of a bowl with a diminishing ridge on the west and a lower, but continuous one on the east.
These winter photos make it easier to see some features, and it was the best time to access the back of the lot.

From the back end of the bowl the forest thins, and there are a few sparse conifers and scrubby bushes. Further back, there is a stretch of dense, mangy conifers, some spruce, but mostly cedar. The density is such that I found it passable only in winter. Beyond that is young deciduous growth. It appears that the area is rather wet late into the year in that the trees are neither big nor robust.

Towards the back of the property are the remnants of an old fence beyond which is a small area of more mature and healthy evergreens that appear to be traversed by an old path. A wall of extremely dense young cedars appear to form the lot’s border.

The back of the lot feels quite remote. Snowshoeing helps the orientation. Have made some snowshoeing/ski trails in the front, and hope to make one along the entire perimeter this upcoming winter.
