Hiatus

Post septic, there was a lull in activity. Not much happening on the lot apart from visits by some of the forest critters. Raccoon and turkey tracks were easily discernible on the septic berm. It took about a week for Mike Madden, the inspector, to come by and easily approve the work. By this time, another weekend came along. Not much to do but spend some time bike riding and touring.

I told Lena about this lovely spot on the Raisin River with a picnic table and bench. She thought it might be a great place to sketch. Lena was trying to cheer me up with the idea that once the work restarted, we could both go out, and she could go off to paint while I was at the lot. I went to check it again, as well as go a little further up the river, into Martintown, to see the new park as it, too, might serve as an inspirational spot.

Both areas are lovely and quiet. In the intervening time, we did go and sit at the bench. Yet, I was very weary, as it took a few days before Stéphane, the shovel operator, showed up for the house dig. Worse, Dennis spoke to Robbie, his nephew and ICF contractor, who said that upon his return from holiday, there had been some turmoil in the operations. For a period, Dennis couldn’t reach him. August was approaching, the humidity of these dog days, so restrained throughout the summer, was starting to become more present. It wasn’t just the light that was hazy.
